Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway (SRPS)

The nostalgia and romance of steam lives on at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway. Volunteers from the Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) have recreated a Scottish branch line where steam and heritage diesel trains take passengers from Bo'ness station by the shores of the River Forth to Birkhill in the West Lothian countryside. At Birkhill passengers may take the guided tour through the caverns of Birkhill Fireclay Mine.

The Scottish Railway Exhibition at Bo'ness station tells the story of the development of railways in Scotland. The exhibition halls contain an extensive range of locomotives, carriages, wagons and railway artifacts illustrating the making, running and using of Scotland's railways.

Since 1970 SRPS Railtours has operated a summer programme of day rail excursions along Scotland's most scenic railway lines, and to historic towns and cities south of the Border. The heritage carriages used for SRPS Railtours are owned by the Society and maintained at Bo'ness by members.

The Scottish Railway Preservation Society was founded in 1961 to preserve, restore, display and demonstrate Scotland's railway heritage. The SRPS has a membership of over 1,300 including many who are actively involved in running the Society, SRPS Railtours, the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway and the Scottish Railway Exhibition. New members and volunteers are always welcome.
